Designing and Planning
Every project is different, but many of the processes and steps remain the same. Having worked on designs and furnishing of new builds, renovations, and established spaces, our consultations are influenced by the stage of completeness we enter the project at. This could be anything from drawing up a full plan for the design and furnishing of a new build – from raw shell to completed interior – to working with clients on architect plans for new builds or renovations of existing spaces, including creative kitchen and bathroom concepts. All projects are supported throughout by hand-sketched ideas that evolve into floor plan designs and layouts to scale, 2D elevation drawings, and eventually 3D renderings of the interior. And whether we are working on a single room or an entire home, there are always detailed project management schedules that make it easier for you to monitor progress even when you aren’t on-site. We are happy for early consultations to happen in our office, but later consultations will need to be in-home or on-site, as it is critical for us to be able to understand the space and assess the possibilities.
Bespoke Furniture
With a background in woodwork and manufacturing, it isn’t surprising that Mark Alexander Design is known not only for luxury interior design, but also for individually designed and custom made luxury furniture. Each one-of-a-kind concept begins as a hand sketch, with each piece tailored to complement the unique design of the interior and the personal tastes of the client. We aren’t constrained by focusing on a single style, with our work influenced by art deco, classic and contemporary French, minimalism, along with classic and modern interpretations of Victorian and Georgian style. Our local and international artisans are masters of their craft, handcrafting each piece using solid timbers such as oak, walnut, mahogany, European beech, and exotic veneers that include flame mahogany, burl walnut, and macassar ebony. Finishes to our bespoke furniture could include intricate hand-carving, metal details, gilding, traditional French polishing, and contemporary polishing in any colour. Fabrics for our bespoke furniture are selected in consultation with the client from ranges by renowned international and Australian fabric houses. Quality and specification checks are carried out throughout the manufacturing process for any bespoke furniture and other custom made décor items to ensure our requirements and standards are always met, and clients are provided with regular updates throughout the process – including photographs.
Interior Finishes and Décor
The interior designs services and consultations available through our office are not only intended for clients needing a new build or renovation designed, decorated, and finished. We have – and continue to do so – also consulted and worked with clients wanting to refresh existing décor by making more moderate changes or additions. This could be as simple as new wall treatments, such as the selection and hanging of wallpaper, adding or replacing wall panelling, or expertly applied paint finishes. Our consultancy and design services can also be limited to working with you to update or introduce contemporary and classic window treatments using luxury curtains, drapes, decorative pelmets, and tiebacks. Or new accents to interiors, including designer rugs, carpeting, new timber, parquet, tile, or marble flooring, and bespoke, custom-made fireplaces, mirrors, lighting and lamps, and artwork.
